Act now to save your local reserve

Watercare is proposing to turn two-thirds of Salisbury Reserve into a construction site as part of Herne Bay wastewater upgrades, starting in mid-2024.

It means trucks, Portacom offices, cranes, and storage for materials such as pipes and diesel would cover a large portion of the reserve for two years or more – destroying the natural habitat and leaving most of the park unusable.

We need your help to protect Salisbury! Submissions have now closed but you can still write to Watercare to tell them you do not support their proposal.

What’s proposed?

Watercare’s upgrade project will see new pipelines put in under the road from the start of Marine Parade through to Point Erin Park.

Salisbury Reserve has been earmarked as the primary hub for construction support laid out as suggested on the map.

The site would cover all of the old bowling green and restored grassy strip of land right down to Argyle St.

Work is estimated to finish in 2026 but seems likely to take longer, as the project is part of a larger piece of work that does not finish until 2028.

Make your voice heard!

We must protect Salisbury Reserve for people, plants, animals, and community now and for future generations.

Support us to hold onto this precious village green, and pass the word on to your neighbours, friends and whānau.

Submissions have now closed, but please continue to support Salisbury by writing to Watercare to oppose their proposal.
